Your Bio

For a while now I've been taking walks in our parks or wherever I happen to feel com- fortable, almost every day. I walk with a radio on and a camera in hand. Sometimes I get a picture I like and other times I take pictures...just to exercise my trigger finger. For the most part these images remind me of where I've been and what kind of a day it was...like a photographic "journal." These galleries contain some of those thousands of pictures. August - September 2011 : When I took the pictures of the spider/bee episode I was not aware of what was really happening. I was about six feet away and looking through the viewfinder and only realized what drama had occurred after I checked it all out on the computer. You never know! My radiation treatments worked out well and as far as I know I'm 99.3% OK. They tell me that there is no such thing as 100% cure to prostate cancer...but the treatments could not have yielded better results. I'm fine. Have a great Fall. W

Very simple and will be over in five weeks. The rest are snips taken over the past couple of months. I haven't spent much time outside so they may not be the awe inspiring classic works of art that you have come to expect but, hey...at least you know that I'm here! Have a great BBQ on Labor Day! W

February 2011 : Kinda weird month February was... Developed a leak in the roof right over a bunch of electronics in the computer room...new roof next week. Ken and Val sold the coffee shop (see Lloyd's gallery) so Saturday mornings will have a slightly different feel to it from now on. The weather has been nasty, the trails muddy and for some doggone reason or other...people by the droves have been crowding the parks. The wild animals have not been happy I'm sure. Thanks for the sunset offer, Matt, I'm going to have to take you up on one like it one day soon. Steve is improving his health after all the C treatments and looks to be good to go...at least everyone down in SoCal hobnobbing at the Grammies make it appear so. Brandon is a short timer as far as being a civilian is concerned and I'm looking forward to my corned beef and cabbage day coming up. Happy St. Patrick's Day you all!

January 2011 : First, kudos to Steve for going through the chemotherapy with the courage he showed. I hope the recovery continues to go well and that the 2011 Tour of the California Alps Death bike ride this year will be a fantastic one for him. Love you, dude! January was filled with a lot of nasty weather and, at my age and health, it's not getting easier. We managed a few good ones this month that pleased me...maybe we can get the "shot of a lifetime" in February! They say that attitude is everything. Look at the little guy in the first frame perched on the rock. Knowing what he has to do day after day to survive...check his pose and the proud and brave face he puts out to the world. Go ahead, emulate him...I challenge you! Happy Valentine's Day!

December 2010 : To say the least, this month's weather has been "frightfull." Shorter and less time out...even the animals and birds seemed to be holding out someplace else. November 2010 : I always feel I have to remind you that these images are memories of what I see or feel when I go out each day. As monotonous and unremarkable as they may often seem to you...they consistently bring back to me images that have enriched my life, if only for an instant. A new perspective of a piece of Mother Nature's work...even a dusty trail. An unexpected cry of a bird or beating of wings with a splash in a quiet pond. The impact of a burst of color or an activity that is indelibly captured, often by luck, with the camera. Sometimes I can record an image that also might excite you.The images I get invariably excite me with the memory of that moment! Happy Thanksgiving. See you next month.

October 2010 : I don't know who first said it, but George Carlin has had it attributed to him most often. "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away." My having the opportunity to absorb some of those moments when I go out on these daily walks of mine...more and more I appreciate the profundity of that statement. We had a splash of fifteen seconds of fame this month...now on the bigger and better things. Have a happy Halloween... all of you...and don't forget to VOTE!

September 2010 : This month's images may be a bit more whimsical a series of pictures than normal ... it's been that kind of a month. Still, the chance to get out and take photos of some of the sights continues to be a favor that the Big Guy has allowed me. Thank goodness I don't have to make a living taking pictures like some do. I'd be flat broke for sure! For you old folks, however, even though you don't venture very far from home... there lies richness in all you see even if it is in the same place you have been to thousands of times. That's the challenge... the appreciation of the mother of us all. Have a good month coming up. GO Giants!

August 2010 : Well, from the mountains to the ocean including a visit to medieval times...kind of a weird month. Citizens of the Western Kingdom of The Society of Creative Anachronism held a melee in one of the neighborhood parks nearby. Interesting byplay of the modern cars in the background and the very realistic renaissance garb. Vigorous and hard hitting battles! Tried to get some surfers...there was only one that was reasonably any good. The quality of the photography hasn't improved though...one of these days I've got to find a wow shot! It's like looking in the mirror every day hoping for Charles Bronson but only finding the same old Bluto. Expectations denied...again! Have a great Labor Day.

July 2010 : OK, the summer is half over and July was interesting. Let's see what August is going to bring us. At least there are no "dumb" holidays to have to "celebrate." May 2010 : As you all know, everyone has to be somewhere all the time, doing something all the time...and that is for everyone on the planet. Well, if you consider that it may take approximately 30 seconds to compose and shoot an image and there are 135 images here...welcome to sharing about an hour and ten minutes of my month of May! Not necessarily spectacular, but honest. I hope your Memorial Day was, well, memorable! Note to photographers. Don't crucify me for the noise in a lot of these pictures...I have a draconian bent to sharpen the long shots. Sorry.

April 2010 : It was a rough month. Did not get out very much. Some of these are from the "Walks with Rose" at Washington Rehab. I'm really looking forward to warmer weather and nicer days. We'll share them when they come. Happy Mother's Day y'all. Since I had to walk to get to the theater, it counts, so I've included two videos at the end of granddaughters Kristen and Brooke performing in South Pacific down in Thousand Oaks. Get out of "Slideshow" mode, click on the image, click on the arrow in the main window then stand back...the applause gets loud at the end. March 2010 : Love it when the wildflowers pop out all over the place. Must have been the substantial amount of rain this month. A few pictures of a squall hitting Quarry Lakes including a massive 6 inch wave that not even a menehune could catch and ride! Happy Easter!

February 2010 : February certainly had a mixed bag of weather. Signs of spring, however, still pop out here and there. Interesting this month...some endangered brown pelicans (they're off the Feds list but have had a rough west coast winter) and a view of Drawbridge, CA (ghost town sinking into the mud) from about two miles away.

January 2010 : This was a month with a lot of weather. You can see at Coyote Hills where earlier in the month the boardwalk is being used by a bunch of children and in others...flooding. When you see a bench in the middle of water look closely and you can see the edges of the boardwalk in the water. Dry Creek became angry with loads of water. I'll be glad when the weather gives us a lot more sun. Note: The robins absolutely cleared those bushes of every single berry in about three days. Don't complain about too many pictures of Genevieve the red-tailed hawk. She's my friend.

Albany Bulb 11/23/09 : Before having lunch with some graduates of the class of 1951, Hilo High School in Hawaii, at at a restaurant in Hilltop Mall in Richmond...I made it a point to visit and hike the Albany Bulb. For more information about the park Google it! It's a bit more civilized now than I expected and I only found two homeless encampments. I did not cover the entire peninsula however. Great views of the Bay!

Half Moon Bay surfers : After all the hullaballoo about all the snow in California the other day I decided to checkout the real California weather down at Half Moon Bay. Cheez. It was colder and windier than at home. These guys are nuts! This spot is just about a hop and a skip from the famous "Mavericks" where the contest was supposed to be held right about now. I think they're going to give it a go tomorrow. From the looks of them I don't believe these guys will be in it! But this is California where anything is possible!

Dry Creek Cottage : January 22, 2010..during a short break in the storm. The creek at the cottage rarely has a good run of water except after a substanial rain. Ranger Matt told me that the water had gotten so high during the peak of the rainfall that the main bridge started acting like a dam because of debris that had come down from the forest above. We had a nice conversation and here's what the little park looked like today. Love it.

Tyson Lagoon, July 19, 2010 : These pictures represent a special treat for me. This little bit of acreage is smack dab in the middle of Fremont adjacent to the BART station and no more than yards from Mowry, Stevenson, Paseo Padre and Lake Elizabeth. It is not open to the public on a regular basis. Volunteer help to maintain the property can be arranged for by going to the website: http://www.msnucleus.org/watersheds/tule/tule.html. With the cooperation and permission of Dr. Joyce Blueford, Ph.D. of the Math/Science Nucleus I was able to walk this awesome and marvelous property to take these pictures. In my opinion, the caretaking and scholarly maintenance of this little gem is being done in the appropriate way to preserve the integrity of the ecosystem there. The proximity to the public and yet its total independence from careless or malicious attention is creating a gem of education, study and appreciation. Thank you Dr. Joyce.

Bronco chase ending : Today, over Niles, I saw a park helicopter circling Alameda Creek. When I went out there, here is some of what I saw. The Bronco belonged to a guy who, after seeing a couple of robbers leaving a Niles jewelry store who sideswiped his wife's car, followed them, apparently in "hot" pursuit. What followed is a little murky, I'll probably read about it in the paper tomorrow. He somehow ended up in the creek. Some say he was trying to cross the creek to follow them AND almost made it except he couldn't climb the other side. The creek is shallow and the Bronco is a 4-wheel vehicle but... Anyway, I got to watch them pull his vehicle out of the creek. Looks pretty good for what it went through, don't you think?

S...out.of.Luck : Sylvia and I went out to see what the Solyndra campus looked like today. Just curious. Of course you all know what the initials SOL mean...and that appears to be what our country is as a result of this massive scam and irresponsible and incompetent gyration by our country's boss man and his henchmen. There are a lot more pictures but this shows you that, if nothing else, WE spent a whole lot of money just on landscaping, paint, glass and signs! Also, even though this was the middle of the week...we couldn't locate a long line of buyers hanging around. I was hoping for some change I guess...but nevah happen. Sylvia bent over and picked up a few rocks and dirt. We're figuring that at least we will end up with something from that half billion we laid out. If you would like a few pebbles to save from this debacle...let me know. I'll sell cheap.
